Melissa Javaheri, MS, RD, CDN
Melissa Javaheri, MS,RD,CDN is Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and holds
a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from New York University. She completed
her Didactic Program in Nutrition at NYU, Dietetic Internship at New York University Medical Center and Ogilvy Public Relations,
and undergraduate degree in Psychology from Wagner College.
In addition to providing Medical Nutrition Therapy at Shannan
Carter Nutrition, Melissa works as a Clinical Dietitian at Queens Hospital Center where she counsels a wide range of patients
with diverse cultural backgrounds and medical conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and cancer,
as well as maternity patients, behavioral health and substance abuse patients.
Melissa began her career in nutrition with FAN4Kids (fitness
and nutrition for kids), a non-profit organization aimed at reducing childhood obesity.
As a nutrition and fitness instructor, she educated students and parents
on the importance of healthy diet and exercise through fun, interactive classes, healthy food tastings, and informative parent
workshops. She moved on to become Program Coordinator for the organization and
collaborated with school administrators, community partners, parents and staff to implement the program in schools throughout
New York City and New Jersey. She stays involved with FAN4Kids by writing
and designing their quarterly newsletter which provides the latest health news, seasonal recipes, nutrition tips and fitness
activities for kids and families.
Melissa is an active member of the American Dietetic Association,
the Greater New York Dietetic Association, and the following dietetic practice groups:
Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists, Weight Management, and Dietitians in Integrative and Functional
Medicine. Additionally, Melissa will earn her Certificate in Adult Weight
Management from the American Dietetic Association this Fall.
Melissa is a former NCAA Division I Volleyball player and
continues to stay active by playing in volleyball leagues, running, and taking a variety of fitness classes. She believes in combining regular physical activity and healthy eating to improve physical, mental and
emotional well-being, and enjoys helping her clients achieve their goals and discover their unique path to healthy living.
